Discover Pilates for a Better You
Eugene Pilates is a boutique classical Pilates studio located in the Hawkins/Southwest neighborhood of Eugene, dedicated to the original Pilates method developed by Joseph Pilates. The practice of Pilates improves strength, balance, posture, flexibility, coordination, and muscle tone.
Pilates can be practiced by almost anyone. Perhaps you have noticed that as you have gotten older, your strength, flexibility, and balance is not what it used to be. Maybe you have never felt very flexible. Pilates helps improve your flexibility, strength, and balance using low impact exercises. If you work at a desk job or spend a lot of time in a seated position, you may have developed a hunched posture and suffered low back pain. Back pain is often a result of muscle imbalances created by this prolonged seated position. Pilates exercises can be chosen for you to correct these muscle imbalances, straightening your posture and reducing or eliminating your back pain. Cyclists, runners and other athletes also benefit from Pilates, as practice of a single sport often creates strength in one primary area of the body, potentially creating muscle imbalances, while Pilates involves your whole body, promoting balance in your muscles, and improving your flexibility. Many athletes that practice Pilates see improved endurance and strength in their chosen sport.
Whether you are just starting to exercise, or are already active and are looking to up your game, I will work with you to create an authentic Pilates workout customized to the needs of your body and your particular goals, in a fun, supportive environment. I primarily offer private lessons, so the lesson is focused on your needs for the day, without the distraction of other people working out around you. If you are wanting to work towards a goal, I promise to help you become stronger and more confident in your body, and give you the knowledge to care for your body in your daily activities!
The studio is equipped with apparatus from Gratz and Pilates Design by Basil. These apparatus are designed close to the original design of Joseph Pilates. While the apparatus may look intimidating and like torture devices, they are designed to assist and challenge your body in the performance of the exercises. Most people who come to the studio a little nervous about the apparatus end up loving the support that the apparatus brings to their practice.
Any of the equipment may be utilized during your workout depending on your goals and the needs of your body that day. Each piece provides different support and challenges to your body.
The apparatus includes:
Reformer —uses springs for resistance, and is designed to help you hold your body in a supportive, aligned position.
Cadillac —looks like a small four-poster bed—great for clients who cannot get up and down from the floor easily.
Wunda chair —uses springs for resistance to challenge your core.
Ladder barrel —can be used to improve flexibility in your spine and legs .
Arm Chair — invaluable for enabling shoulders or working on your arm/back connection.
Spine corrector —often used to help create more flexibility in your upper back.
Pedipole—great device for improving posture
Small barrel —used similarly to the spine corrector
Foot corrector —as it implies in the name, works with strengthening your feet, and relating your feet to your core.
Toe corrector —yes, works on your toes, and can help you understand the connection of your feet to your core.
Magic circle —let’s just say it’s magic!
